It all began in 1950 when Michael was born in Danbury to Philip and Genevieve (Michael) Shakro. His teenage years are full of stories that he still won't tell his kids! Michael graduated from Danbury High School in 1968.

In 1972, Michael began his career in the food service biz, and as he does with everything, he started big, opening a catering company and restaurant in the same year. In business from 1972 to 2009, Michael's Catering is Michael's longest running venture to date. His first restaurant and bar, Michael's (see where this is going?), was open from 1972 to 1982.

The restaurant was located on the corner of Elm Street and New Street in Danbury and had a very large sign hanging outside. As fate would have it, one stormy night that sign fell onto a car owned by a pretty blonde named Linda. Michael and Linda were married in 1982.

From 1978 to 1984 Michael ventured across the New York border to Carmel where he owned and managed Pauper's Too Restaurant. As seems to be the case with many popular old hangouts, Pauper's Too was eventually converted to condos.

Melissa was born in 1984. People called her her father's clone and Michael always responded with a "poor kid". With the start of his family, Michael switched his business ventures from beer beer to root beer. He opened Michael's One Stop Variety in the old Burns Drug Store at 143 Main Street Danburyand ran a soda delivery business called Soda Pop on Wheels from 1983 to 1987.

Tiffany was born in 1986 and was quickly nicknamed Dynamite for her red hair and boundless energy. Michael was born in 1990. His face is on the sign along with his Dad. You will see him here working and learning the business while he attends grad school.

From 1986 to 1994, Michael owned and operated Sears Deli at the Danbury Fair Mall. His kids thought this was great because they got to ride the mall carousel A LOT. Michael also opened three other deli's in Sears stores in Manchester, CT and Holyoke, MA.

Michael had long dabbled in car sales, but officially expanded his business experience outside of the food industry when he began working at Greentree Toyota in 1994. Michael still works at Greentree as the Leasing Manager.

From 1998 to 2009, Michael returned to a Main Street address to run his catering business in the Danbury Elk's Lodge. Michael just couldn't stay away from the restaurant and bar owner role, and opened Michael's II Cafe in 2009. And the rest, as they say, is history.

The children grew up and college bills came due! So here we are! The picture on our logo is a caricature of Michael Shakro and his son Michael. Two restaurants named Michael's and Father & Son named Michael therefore... Michael's II Cafe!
